Manchester City to host PSG at Etihad seeking second Champions League win of season

Manchester City will host Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad on Wednesday aiming for their second Champions League win of the season. City currently sit top of the Premier League and have started their European campaign with a 2-0 victory over Porto, while PSG are chasing a second group stage win after thrashing Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes.

City arrive fresh from a 3-0 win at Anfield on Sunday, where Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku, and Rayan Cherki scored following Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch’s red card in the 62nd minute. That result keeps Manchester City three points clear of Arsenal at the league summit. Haaland has scored a brace in City’s opening Champions League fixture, continuing his strong start to the season. Manager Enzo Maresca has no reported injury concerns ahead of the PSG game, and his side have won eight matches in a row across all competitions.

PSG come into the match on a three-game winning streak in Ligue 1, having beaten Le Mans 3-1 on Saturday. Lucas Beraldo scored an early penalty, Louis Mafouta equalised for Le Mans, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Maghnes Akliouche secured the win. This run lifts PSG to sixth in the French top flight with 11 points. Their Champions League opener was a dominant 6-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava. New signing Ferran Torres netted a hat-trick, Ousmane Dembélé scored twice, and Fabián Ruiz added a sixth goal.

The two clubs met earlier this season in the Champions League group stage at Parc des Princes. That match ended 4-2 to PSG after a thrilling comeback. City took a two-goal lead through Jack Grealish and Haaland shortly after half-time, but PSG hit back with goals from Dembélé, Barcola, João Neves, and a stoppage-time goal from Gonçalo Ramos.

This fixture also carries a personal subplot. Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was part of PSG’s first Champions League-winning squad in the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, Maresca faces PSG for the first time as City manager, having previously led Chelsea to a 3-0 victory over the French side in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.

PSG will be without Senny Mayulu, sidelined with a thigh injury. However, Luis Enrique will welcome back Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes, both rested against Le Mans. The French champions will be keen to build on their recent performances after two draws and a defeat in their first three Ligue 1 games.

Kick-off at the Etihad is scheduled for 20:00 BST on Wednesday, 14 October. Both teams are vying for a second Champions League group win, and the match promises to test City’s unbeaten run and PSG’s determination to climb the European standings.
