Gonçalo Ramos grew up in Olhão in the Algarve and came through Benfica’s academy. He became Benfica’s first-choice striker and won the Portuguese title in 2022/23.
At the 2022 World Cup he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up against Switzerland and scored a hat-trick, the first in the tournament. Paris Saint-Germain signed him in 2023, and he won Ligue 1 titles and the 2025 Champions League, often coming off the bench.
AC Milan signed him in summer 2026 for €74 million.
Playing style
Ramos is a mobile, intelligent striker who is a good finisher with both feet and his head. He presses hard, links play well and is good at finding space in the penalty area. At PSG he often came off the bench behind stars such as Kylian Mbappé and later Ousmane Dembélé, but still scored important goals. At Milan he has the chance to become the main striker.
International career
Ramos made his Portugal debut in 2022 and scored a hat-trick against Switzerland in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup, the first hat-trick of that tournament. He has since been a regular in Portugal squads.
Career in numbers
Since his first senior season in 2020/21, Ramos has made 242 club appearances and scored 85 goals in all competitions for 3 clubs. His best scoring return came in 2022/23: 27 goals in 47 appearances for Benfica. So far in 2026/27 he has 1 goal in 6 appearances for AC Milan.
