Villarreal come from a town of around 50,000 people near Castellón, earning them the nickname 'the Yellow Submarine'. Backed by the Roig family since 1997, the club rose from the regional leagues to become a regular in European competition. Villarreal reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2006 and 2022, and won the Europa League in 2021, beating Manchester United on penalties in the final. They play at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
