Gerard Moreno grew up in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, near Barcelona, and came through Villarreal’s system after early years in Catalan youth football. After spells with Villarreal’s reserve side and a loan at Mallorca, he joined Espanyol in 2015, where he became one of La Liga’s most reliable Spanish forwards.
Villarreal brought him back in 2018, and he went on to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. He was a key figure in the 2021 Europa League win, scoring in the final against Manchester United, and he is now club captain.
Moreno is an intelligent, two-footed forward who can play as a striker or drift wide, and he is an excellent penalty-taker. He has been capped by Spain and played at Euro 2020, where Spain reached the semi-finals.
