Fikayo Tomori was born in Calgary, Canada, and grew up in England, joining Chelsea’s academy at eight. After loans at Brighton, Hull City and Derby County, he moved to AC Milan on loan in January 2021, then permanently.
His pace and recovery defending made him a key part of Milan’s back line, and he won Serie A in 2021/22.
Tomori has been capped by England.
Playing style
Tomori is a quick, athletic centre-back who excels at recovery defending. His pace allows Milan to play a high line, and he is strong in one-on-one duels, often catching forwards who think they have got away. With the ball he is composed and willing to carry it forward into midfield. His move to Milan revitalised his career after limited opportunities at Chelsea, and within months he had become a key part of the team that won Serie A in 2021/22, forming a strong partnership with Pierre Kalulu. He is also known as a positive, popular presence in the dressing room.
International career
Tomori was born in Canada and represented them at youth level before switching to England, where he grew up. He made his England debut in 2019 and has been called up to several squads since, competing in a very strong group of English centre-backs.
Career in numbers
Across 11 seasons of senior club football, beginning in 2015/16, Tomori has played 332 matches and scored 11 goals for 5 clubs. The 2023/24 season, with 4 goals from 35 matches for AC Milan, remains his highest tally. His busiest campaign was 2018/19, with 55 appearances.
