Bournemouth’s Alex Scott ruled out for up to eight weeks with thigh injury after England debut

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with a thigh injury sustained just days after his England full debut. The 23-year-old withdrew from the England squad ahead of their Nations League match against the Czech Republic on Tuesday due to a quadriceps problem.

Scott had impressed during his first start for England in the 7-0 thrashing of Croatia on Saturday. He played 70 minutes in central midfield alongside Elliot Anderson before being substituted, despite feeling the thigh issue before the match. England manager Thomas Tuchel praised Scott’s performance after the game, saying, "First start and what a start, what a performance. He is so smooth on the ball, his decision making is at the highest level. He plays with so much confidence. He is so active, so confident. The work rate off the ball. He is just the complete package. He gave us a lot of mobility and a lot of variety and work rate in the centre of the pitch."

Scott had earlier made his England debut as a substitute in the 2-0 win over the Czech Republic in Prague on the previous Tuesday. His injury means he will miss a busy run of fixtures for Bournemouth, who face nine matches between 10 October and 8 November. Alongside their regular Premier League games, the Cherries will contest Europa League group stage matches against Sturm Graz, AC Milan, and Sparta Prague, as well as a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa.

Bournemouth are currently 17th in the Premier League, still searching for their first win after five games, with three draws and two losses. The club also announced the ongoing absence of French forward Eli Junior Kroupi, who is sidelined with a foot injury sustained during pre-season.

The injury to Scott adds to Bournemouth’s challenges ahead of a demanding schedule. Manager Marco Rose’s squad secured a 2-1 victory at Real Sociedad on their European debut and progressed in the EFL Cup with a win over Lincoln. They return to Premier League action against Chelsea on Saturday.

Alongside Scott, Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa has also been ruled out of England’s fixture against the Czech Republic and will return to his club for treatment. The 28-year-old’s injury details have not been specified beyond this confirmation.

Scott is considered a promising talent for England’s future, with ambitions reportedly including a place in the Euro 2028 squad. His absence will be felt in both club and country line-ups during this critical period.
