Pau Torres grew up in Villarreal and came through the academy of his hometown club, spending a season on loan at Málaga before becoming a first-team regular. He was part of the Villarreal side that won the Europa League in 2021, beating Manchester United on penalties in the final.
Aston Villa signed him in 2023, reuniting him with Unai Emery, who had coached him at Villarreal. His left foot and calm distribution give Villa a centre-back who can break lines with his passing, and he played a central role in the club’s return to the Champions League.
Torres has been capped by Spain and was part of the squad that reached the Euro 2020 semi-finals.
