Levi Colwill joined Chelsea’s academy at eight and spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Huddersfield Town, who reached the Championship play-off final. A second loan at Brighton, under Roberto De Zerbi, developed his ability on the ball in a Premier League team.
He returned to Chelsea in 2023 and established himself as a first-team centre-back. Colwill is left-footed and comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, and he can also play at left-back.
He was part of the Chelsea team that won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in 2025. Colwill won the European Under-21 Championship with England in 2023 and has since been capped at senior level.
Playing style
Colwill is a left-footed centre-back who is comfortable with the ball. He likes to carry it into midfield and plays accurate passes, which makes him valuable for teams that build from the back. Defensively he is strong in the air and reads the game well. He can also play at left-back, where his passing and composure are useful. His loans at Huddersfield and Brighton helped him develop quickly, and he returned to Chelsea as a first-team regular.
International career
Colwill was part of the England team that won the 2023 European Under-21 Championship without conceding a goal. He made his senior England debut in 2023 and has since been included in several squads.
Career in numbers
Colwill’s senior club career, which began in 2021/22, has so far brought 138 appearances and 5 goals for 3 clubs. So far in 2026/27 he has made 5 appearances for Chelsea. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
