Harvey Elliott is attracting interest from Serie A pair Napoli and Lazio as Liverpool prepare to reshape their attack before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old midfielder failed to make the squad for Liverpool's opening Premier League game of the season and is again surplus to requirements under head coach Andoni Iraola. According to a report in the Daily Mail, both Italian clubs are monitoring his situation.
"Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is attracting interest from Italian sides Napoli and Lazio," the report reads.
Liverpool have yet to receive any formal bids for Elliott, who joined the club as a teenager in 2019. "Though interest is expected over the next four days, Liverpool have still to receive a formal enquiry for Elliott," the report states.
The playmaker has only a few months left on his contract, which would make a sale this summer more straightforward for the club. He was handed a chance to impress during preseason under the Basque coach but failed to grasp the opportunity.
Elliott's situation is part of a wider overhaul at Anfield. Liverpool are planning significant changes in attack, with Bradley Barcola primed to become the summer's headline arrival. The 23-year-old Frenchman is coming in from Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee that could reach £120m.
The two-time Champions League winner is joining Victor Munoz in a new-look Reds attack under Iraola. Spain's FIFA World Cup winner was recruited for around £34m after sporting director Richard Hughes triggered his Osasuna release clause.
But Hughes and Iraola are not done there. More signings are planned before the window closes, including Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace and potentially Yankuba Minteh or Ibrahim Mbaye.
To accommodate these new arrivals in attack and on the wage bill, certain departures will be required. The biggest sacrifice is set to be Cody Gakpo, who is wanted for a £72m deal by Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi. Federico Chiesa is also a man in demand, with Serie A teams like Atalanta and Roma thought to be keen on bringing him back to Italy.
Elliott's path to first-team minutes at Liverpool looks increasingly blocked. With more winger signings expected to be confirmed in the coming days, the outlook for the former England under-21 international is going to get worse rather than better.
Expect movement for Elliott over the next few days as the window ticks down. There is not going to be any space for him in Iraola's first-team squad this season, and Napoli and Lazio appear ready to offer him a way out.
