Antoine Semenyo was born in London and came through Bristol City, where he learned his trade through loan spells in the lower leagues, including a season at Newport County and a spell at Sunderland.
His move to Bournemouth in January 2023 proved a turning point. Under Andoni Iraola’s high-pressing system he developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide forwards, combining physical power with a direct running style and an eye for spectacular goals.
A Ghana international, Semenyo joined Manchester City in 2026 after a prolonged period of interest from several of England’s biggest clubs. He can play on either flank or as a central striker.
Playing style
Semenyo is a powerful, direct forward who can play on either wing or through the middle. He is strong enough to hold off defenders, quick enough to run in behind and has a thunderous shot from range. Under Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth he became a key part of an intense pressing game, winning the ball high up the pitch and attacking quickly. He is equally comfortable with either foot and often cuts inside from the right to shoot. His versatility makes him a useful tactical option.
International career
Semenyo chose to represent Ghana, the country of his parents, and made his debut in 2022. He was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has since been a regular in their attack.
Career in numbers
Semenyo’s senior club career, which began in 2017/18, has so far brought 324 appearances and 78 goals for 6 clubs. His best scoring return came in 2025/26: 21 goals in 48 appearances for Bournemouth and Manchester City. His busiest campaign was 2020/21, with 50 appearances. So far in 2026/27 he has 2 goals in 7 appearances for Manchester City. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
