Jérémy Doku grew up in Antwerp and came through Anderlecht’s youth system, making his debut for the Belgian club as a 16-year-old. Rennes signed him in 2020, and three seasons in Ligue 1 established him as one of Europe’s most effective dribblers.
Manchester City paid around £55 million for him in 2023. His first season brought a Premier League title and some outstanding individual performances, including a four-assist display against Bournemouth. Doku’s pace and willingness to take on defenders one-on-one make him unusual in a City squad built mainly on possession.
He has been a regular for Belgium since his teenage years and played at the 2020 European Championship and the 2022 World Cup.
Playing style
Doku is one of the best one-on-one dribblers in world football. He is explosively quick over short distances, changes direction sharply and is unafraid to take on defenders repeatedly. At City he gives Guardiola a different weapon: a winger who can beat a packed defence on his own. His crossing and decision-making have improved, and he has become a more reliable creator. His main area for improvement remains his finishing, but his ability to create danger from nothing makes him valuable in tight games.
International career
Doku made his senior Belgium debut in 2020, at 18. He played at Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, and is part of the new generation expected to lead Belgium as the golden generation retires.
Career in numbers
Doku’s senior club career, which began in 2018/19, has so far brought 262 appearances and 40 goals for 3 clubs. His most productive season in front of goal was 2025/26, when he scored 8 times in 47 games for Manchester City. So far in 2026/27 he has made 2 appearances for Manchester City.
