Trent Alexander-Arnold grew up in West Derby, a short walk from Liverpool’s training ground, and joined the club’s academy at six. He made his debut in 2016 and quickly became first-choice right-back.
His passing range and delivery from set pieces redefined what a full-back could do: he set Premier League assist records for a defender, and his quickly taken corner against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final is one of the most famous moments in the club’s history. He won the Champions League in 2019 and two Premier League titles.
In 2025 he left Liverpool on a free transfer to join Real Madrid, where he wears the No. 12 shirt. He has been capped by England more than 30 times.
Playing style
Alexander-Arnold is one of the most creative defenders in football history. His passing range, both long and short, is exceptional, and his crossing and set-piece delivery produced record numbers of assists for a defender. He often moves into central midfield when his team has the ball, becoming a playmaker. His defending has sometimes been criticised, particularly in one-on-one situations, but his influence on attacking play is unique. His move to Real Madrid, after two decades at Liverpool, was one of the biggest stories of the 2025 transfer window.
International career
Alexander-Arnold made his England debut in 2018 and played at the 2018 World Cup, the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. He scored the winning penalty in the Euro 2024 quarter-final shoot-out against Switzerland.
Career in numbers
Across 11 seasons of senior club football, beginning in 2016/17, Alexander-Arnold has played 394 matches and scored 23 goals for 2 clubs. The 2024/25 season, with 4 goals from 49 matches for Liverpool and Real Madrid, remains his highest tally. So far in 2026/27 he has made 5 appearances for Real Madrid.
