Luciano Spalletti has been coaching for more than three decades. He made his name at Udinese and then Roma, where he won two Coppa Italia titles and developed a system that used Francesco Totti as a false nine. He then won two Russian league titles with Zenit Saint Petersburg.
His greatest achievement came at Napoli: in 2022/23 he led them to the Serie A title, their first since the Maradona era, playing some of the most attractive football in Europe.
Spalletti then managed Italy from 2023 to 2025, reaching the last 16 of Euro 2024. He was appointed Juventus coach in 2025.
Coaching style
Spalletti’s teams play attacking, possession-based football with fluid movement and a lot of interchange between players. He is known for tactical innovation: at Roma he used Francesco Totti as a false nine long before the idea became fashionable, and his Napoli team that won Serie A in 2022/23 played some of the most attractive football in Europe, built around Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. He is demanding and passionate, and his press conferences are often memorable for their philosophical tone.
International career
Spalletti managed Italy from 2023 to 2025. He led them to Euro 2024, where they reached the last 16 before being eliminated by Switzerland. He left the role in 2025 and was appointed Juventus coach later that year.
