Biography

Borja Iglesias grew up in Santiago de Compostela and came through Celta Vigo’s youth system. His breakthrough came on loan at Real Zaragoza, where he scored prolifically in the Segunda DivisiΓ³n, before he moved to Espanyol in 2018.

He joined Real Betis in 2019 and won the Copa del Rey with them in 2022, scoring in the final. After a spell in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, he returned to Celta, the club where he started.

Iglesias, nicknamed ‘El Panda’, is a strong, hard-working centre-forward who holds the ball up well. He won his first Spain cap in 2022. He is also known for speaking out on social issues and for his painted fingernails, which he has defended as a stand against prejudice.

Career in numbers

Across 12 seasons of senior club football, beginning in 2014/15, Iglesias has played 374 matches and scored 127 goals for 5 clubs. The 2017/18 season, with 23 goals from 43 matches for Zaragoza, remains his highest tally. His busiest campaign was 2021/22, with 51 appearances. So far in 2026/27 he has made 3 appearances for Celta. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
