Alexander Isak grew up in Solna, near Stockholm, and made his debut for AIK at 16. Borussia Dortmund signed him in 2017, and after a loan at Willem II he moved to Real Sociedad in 2019, winning the Copa del Rey.
Newcastle United signed him in 2022, and he became one of the Premier League’s best strikers, scoring the winning goal in the 2025 League Cup final against Liverpool.
Liverpool signed him in September 2025 for a British record fee of £125 million. Isak is Sweden’s first-choice striker.
Playing style
Isak is a tall, technical striker who combines finishing with dribbling and link-up play. At 1.92 m he is unusually agile and quick, with excellent close control, and he can score with both feet. His ability to drop deep, turn and run at defenders makes him more than just a goalscorer. At Newcastle he was one of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League, scoring more than 20 league goals in 2024/25. He is also calm from the penalty spot. Liverpool paid a British record fee because they believe he can lead their attack for years.
International career
Isak made his Sweden debut in 2017, at 17, becoming one of the youngest players to score for the national team. He played at Euro 2020, and he is Sweden’s first-choice striker and one of their most important players.
Career in numbers
