South Dakota and South Dakota State will face each other on Oct. 31 in a 3 p.m. kickoff broadcast on ESPNU. The Missouri Valley Football Conference selected this in-state rivalry game to be part of its ESPN linear network schedule for the third consecutive season.
Both teams enter the Halloween afternoon matchup ranked in the top 10 nationally and near the top of the MVFC standings. South Dakota State holds a 5-2 overall record and sits at 2-1 in conference play, ranked fifth in the Stats Perform Top 25. South Dakota is 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, currently eighth in the rankings.
The game will take place in Brookings, with the Jackrabbits hosting the Coyotes. Last year’s meeting in Vermillion saw South Dakota win 24-17 inside the DakotaDome. The previous encounter in Brookings went to overtime, with South Dakota State edging out a 20-17 victory.
The rivalry’s television presence on ESPNU continues a pattern established over the last two seasons, with the 2023 and 2024 games also airing on the network. In 2024, the game was scheduled for 6 p.m. while the 2025 contest will take place at 3 p.m. in Vermillion.
This year’s game is set to be a significant contest between two of the Missouri Valley’s most competitive teams, each aiming to improve their standing late in the season. With just under two weeks before kickoff, both sides are preparing for what promises to be a closely contested game.
The Missouri Valley Football Conference’s decision to feature this matchup on ESPNU reflects the ongoing interest in the rivalry and its competitive nature. Fans can tune in on Halloween afternoon to see how the Jackrabbits and Coyotes measure up this season.
