Jeremie Frimpong was born in Amsterdam and grew up in Manchester, joining Manchester City’s academy. He moved to Celtic in 2019 and won the Scottish league and cups.
Bayer Leverkusen signed him in 2021, and under Xabi Alonso he became one of the most dangerous wing-backs in Europe. He was a key player in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in 2023/24.
Liverpool signed him in 2025. Frimpong has been capped by the Netherlands.
Playing style
Frimpong is a rapid, attacking wing-back who is effectively a winger playing in defence. He makes runs in behind, delivers crosses and scores goals, often arriving in the penalty area at the back post. At Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso he was one of the most productive defenders in Europe, contributing a large number of goals and assists in the unbeaten 2023/24 season. Defensively he relies on his pace to recover. He is also known for his cheerful personality and his popularity among supporters.
International career
Frimpong grew up in England and was eligible for several countries, but he chose the Netherlands, the country of his birth. He was part of the Netherlands squad at Euro 2024, where they reached the semi-finals.
