Iago Aspas grew up in MoaΓ±a, across the bay from Vigo, and joined Celta’s academy as a boy. He made his first-team debut in 2008 and helped the club return to La Liga in 2012.
A move to Liverpool in 2013 did not work out, and after a loan season at Sevilla, who won the Europa League in 2015, he returned to Celta that summer. Back home, he became the club’s greatest modern player and all-time leading goalscorer, and he was repeatedly the top-scoring Spaniard in La Liga.
Aspas is a left-footed forward known for his creativity, set-piece delivery and fierce competitive streak. He won caps for Spain and was part of the squad at the 2018 World Cup, and he remains the club’s captain and its biggest icon.
