Achraf Hakimi was born in Madrid to Moroccan parents and came through Real Madrid’s academy, winning the Champions League as a squad member in 2018. Two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund turned him into one of the fastest attacking full-backs in Europe.
After one title-winning season at Inter in 2020/21, he joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he has won several Ligue 1 titles and was a key figure in the 2025 Champions League win. His speed and his runs from right-back into the box make him as much an attacker as a defender.
For Morocco, Hakimi was central to the run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, the first by an African nation, and he scored the winning Panenka penalty in the shoot-out against Spain.
Playing style
Hakimi is one of the fastest players in world football and one of the most attacking full-backs. He is effectively a winger playing at right-back, making overlapping and underlapping runs, delivering crosses and scoring goals. His speed also makes him an excellent recovery defender. At PSG under Luis Enrique he often moved inside into midfield or even into the penalty area, contributing more goals and assists than most attackers. He is a strong penalty-taker and has a calm temperament in big moments.
International career
Hakimi has been a key player for Morocco since his debut in 2016. At the 2022 World Cup he helped Morocco become the first African team to reach the semi-finals, scoring the winning Panenka penalty in the shoot-out against Spain. He is one of the most important players in African football and has captained Morocco.
Career in numbers
Hakimi’s senior club career, which began in 2017/18, has so far brought 349 appearances and 49 goals for 4 clubs. His most productive season in front of goal was 2024/25, when he scored 11 times in 55 games for Paris Saint-Germain. So far in 2026/27 he has made 7 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain.
