Inter Milan have completed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones in a deal worth £30m.
The 25-year-old has signed a contract with Inter until 2031, with the Reds accepting an offer of £25.7m plus £4.3m in add-ons. Liverpool have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Jones made 228 appearances for Liverpool, having been given his debut by Jurgen Klopp in 2019. He struggled to secure a regular starting spot in midfield under Arne Slot last season, making only 18 starts in the Premier League.
The deal comes after Liverpool rejected a verbal offer of £21.7m from Inter in June, valuing Jones at around £35m. Inter's interest in Jones dates back to January, when they proposed a loan with a view to a transfer.
Jones, who joined Liverpool's academy at the age of nine, has become the third English player to join Inter this summer, after John Stones and Djed Spence. His signing is a significant coup for the Serie A champions, who are strengthening their midfield ahead of the new season.
Liverpool's decision to sell Jones suggests that the midfielder's future at Anfield was uncertain. Jones' contract was due to expire next summer, and his lack of regular playing time may have contributed to the Reds' decision to cash in.
The deal is worth £30m, a figure that is slightly lower than the £35m that Liverpool valued Jones at. However, the addition of £4.3m in add-ons brings the total value of the deal closer to the Reds' valuation.
Jones' departure from Liverpool marks the end of an era for the midfielder, who has spent his entire career at the club. His signing by Inter is a significant development in the transfer market, and will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike.
The move is the latest in a series of high-profile signings by Inter this summer, and suggests that the Serie A champions are serious about challenging for major honours.
