Jeff McNeil's 4-For-5 Night Helps Athletics Snap Three-Game Slide
Jeff McNeil was 4 for 5 with three RBIs, including the go-ahead home run, as the Athletics thrashed the Rangers 8-3 on Friday night.
The Athletics were in need of a win after losing 12 of their last 15 games. McNeil's performance helped snap that slide, and he was instrumental in the A's taking the lead early. He hit a 400-foot homer in the sixth inning, his fifth of the season, to put the Athletics back in front.
The Rangers did respond in the sixth, with Jake Burger hitting a 428-foot, three-run homer to left-center that tied the game. However, the A's were able to regain the lead, and three more runs came across in the eighth.
The Athletics' offense was well-supported by their pitching, with four relievers combining to give up just one hit over 3 2/3 innings. Luis Medina earned the win, improving to 3-3 on the season.
Texas was held to just four hits, and were 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position. Chase Silseth took the loss after allowing one run in one inning.
The Athletics' win was a much-needed boost for the team, and they'll look to build on it as they head into Saturday's matchup against the Rangers. The series continues on Saturday, with Rangers LHP Mackenzie Gore (6-9, 4.43 ERA) starting opposite A's RHP J.T. Ginn (8-6, 3.41 ERA).
