"The main goal is to play the WTC final next year. We probably need to win six or seven of our remaining Tests to have a good chance," the Indian captain said.
Selection remains one of the key talking points. Going by Gill's comments on Friday, Prasidh Krishna appears set to partner Mohammed Siraj with the new ball ahead of rookie pacer Gurnoor Brar. Gill praised Gurnoor's ability to extract bounce and make an impact with the old ball, but hinted that Prasidh's recent form may have given him the edge.
India are likely to field a three-pronged left-arm spin attack comprising Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar. The pitch is expected to aid spin as the game progresses, which could make life difficult for India's batsmen.
