The polls for the Marion Star's Golfer of the Year awards for the 2026 season are now open, allowing fans to vote for their favorite golfers.
The polls will run concurrently through the early morning of Aug. 24 at MarionStar.com and its app, and fans may participate as often as allowed.
The nominees for the early season awards are as follows: for the boys, Hunter Ebner from Highland, senior, who had a 93 in sectional in 2025; Rylan Fiant from Cardington-Lincoln, junior, who was on the second-team Knox Morrow Athletic Conference and shot a 94 at sectional in 2025; Asher Gates from River Valley, sophomore, who was the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2025 with a 37.8 average for nine holes and a 77.4 average for 18 holes, and shot a 75 in sectional; Ethan Monroe from North Union, senior, who had a 40.5 average for nine holes in 2025 and was a district qualifier, shooting an 85 at district; Matt Murphy from Pleasant, senior, who had a 45.7 average for nine holes in 2025, was captain, and shot an 88 in sectional; and Jacob Walker from Elgin, senior, who had an 18-hole average of 91 in 2025 and shot a 98 in sectional.
For the girls, the nominees are Bailey Bault from Mount Gilead, junior, who had a 51 average for nine holes in 2025 and shot a 122 in sectional; Kylee Crist from Elgin, senior, who had an 18-hole average of 98 in 2025 and shot a 135 in sectional; Emery Gorenflo from Pleasant, junior, who was on the first-team MOAC in 2025, shot a 97 in sectional, and was the only Marion-area district qualifier, shooting a 107 in district; Addison Hart from Highland, sophomore, who was an honorable mention MOAC in 2025 and shot a 108 in sectional; Maddie McKenzie from Ridgedale, senior, who averaged 54.2 for nine holes in 2025 and shot a 138 in sectional; and Saleen Miller from Northmor, senior, who had a 50 average for nine holes in 2025 and shot a 111 at sectional.
