Washington Commanders' Coach Turner Unveils 4 Key Takeaways from Day 7 of Training Camp

The Washington Commanders made significant moves on Friday, signing Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs and activating three players from the physically unable to perform/non-football injury lists, but it's the developments on the practice field that are generating buzz.

The Commanders' receiving game got a boost as RB Jacory 'Bill' Croskey-Merritt continued to impress in training camp. Croskey-Merritt has been catching everything thrown to him, and his added weight this offseason bodes well for his status as the unquestioned starter in 2026. According to sources, Croskey-Merritt is on track to prove himself as a capable receiver out of the backfield.

CB Fabian Moreau is making waves in the defense, intercepting a pass from Marcus Mariota to Colson Yankoff on Friday. Moreau's experience with Daronte Jones and the defense, which he previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, is serving him well. His signing earlier this week was a response to the unexpected retirement of Ahkello Witherspoon.

Another cornerback, Rasul Douglas, is also making a strong case for himself. Douglas has been one of the most consistent players in training camp, going toe-to-toe with Terry McLaurin and picking off multiple passes. His confidence and ability to move on to the next play after getting beat make him a strong contender for a starting spot in Week 1.

The kicking competition between incumbent kicker Jake Moody and undrafted rookie Drew Stevens is still far from over. Stevens has been gaining momentum, making every kick on Friday, including two long field goals from 53 and 56 yards. He is now 28 of 30 in kicking sessions, while Moody has missed a few long-range kicks, including one from 58 yards.

The Commanders' training camp is heating up, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how these developments play out in the upcoming season. With Day 8 of training camp scheduled for next week, we can expect more exciting moments from the Washington Commanders.
