Federico Chiesa is the son of former Italy striker Enrico Chiesa. He came through Fiorentina’s academy and moved to Juventus in 2020.
A quick, direct winger who can play on either flank, Chiesa was one of the stars of Italy’s Euro 2020 win, scoring the extra-time opener against Austria and the opening goal in the semi-final against Spain. At Juventus he won the Coppa Italia twice.
A serious knee injury suffered in January 2022 interrupted his career, and he never fully recovered his earlier form in Turin. Liverpool signed him in 2024 for a modest fee, and he won the Premier League in his first season, mostly as a substitute, before becoming a more regular squad option.
Playing style
Chiesa is a quick, direct winger who can play on either flank or as a second striker. He dribbles at defenders with pace, shoots well with both feet and works hard. Before his serious knee injury in 2022, he was one of the most exciting attacking players in Europe. His recovery was long, but he has shown flashes of his old quality at Liverpool.
International career
Chiesa made his Italy debut in 2018 and was one of the stars of Euro 2020, scoring against Austria and Spain as Italy won the tournament. He also played at Euro 2024.
Career in numbers
Since his first senior season in 2016/17, Chiesa has made 334 club appearances and scored 71 goals in all competitions for 3 clubs. The 2020/21 season, with 15 goals from 46 matches for Fiorentina and Juventus, remains his highest tally. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
