Alisson Becker grew up in Novo Hamburgo in southern Brazil and came through Internacional’s academy. He moved to Roma in 2016 and, after a season as back-up, helped them reach the 2018 Champions League semi-finals.
Liverpool paid a then-world-record fee for a goalkeeper of around £66 million in 2018. The impact was immediate: Liverpool won the Champions League in his first season, and the Premier League in 2019/20, their first league title in 30 years. He added a second league title in 2024/25. Alisson is known for his calm one-on-one saves and accurate distribution, and he even scored a headed winner against West Brom in 2021.
He won the 2019 Copa América with Brazil and has been their first-choice goalkeeper for most of the past decade.
Playing style
Alisson is one of the most complete goalkeepers of his era. He is calm and imposing in one-on-one situations, often making himself big and waiting for the attacker to commit rather than diving early. His reflexes are sharp, his handling secure, and his distribution is excellent: he can start counter-attacks with long, accurate throws and passes, and he is comfortable playing short under pressure. His arrival transformed Liverpool’s defence, and Jürgen Klopp described him as one of the key signings of his time at the club. He is also a calm leader in the dressing room.
International career
Alisson has been Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper for most of the past decade. He won the 2019 Copa América, conceding only one goal in the tournament, and played at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Career in numbers
Since his first senior season in 2013, Becker has made 504 club appearances in all competitions for 3 clubs. His busiest campaign was 2015, when he played 57 matches for Internacional. So far in 2026/27 he has made 6 appearances for Liverpool. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
