Harry Brook became the first England batter to score a double century in a one-day international, reaching 202 against Sri Lanka in the Rawalpindi tri-series. His innings of 202 runs came off just 114 balls, setting a new record for the fastest double hundred in ODI cricket and surpassing India’s Shubman Gill, who took 117 deliveries to reach the mark last month against the West Indies.
Brook’s previous highest ODI score was 136 not out, also against Sri Lanka. This latest effort took him past Ben Stokes’ England record of 182, set against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023. Brook’s 202 made him the 14th player in men’s ODI history to score a double century and the 12th highest individual score overall.
England posted 429 for 4 in their 50 overs, the highest total recorded in a one-day international in Pakistan. Joe Root supported Brook with 69 runs, while Jacks remained unbeaten on 66. Brook was dismissed on the final ball of the innings, having dominated the Sri Lankan bowling attack throughout.
The tri-series match has yet to see Pakistan bat. England’s performance, led by Brook’s record-breaking innings, puts them in a commanding position.
Earlier in the series, England suffered a loss to Pakistan, but Brook’s display in Rawalpindi signals a strong response from the team. The focus now shifts to how Pakistan will reply to England’s imposing total.
