Jaguars’ Parker Washington emerges as top fantasy receiver ahead of London game

Parker Washington has emerged as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ top fantasy receiver after five games, outpacing expectations and teammates alike just ahead of the team’s Week 6 game against the Houston Texans in London. The fourth-year wideout, taken in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has quietly become Jacksonville’s most productive option in the passing game.

Washington has caught 22 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. While those yardage numbers may not leap off the page, his efficiency stands out. His yards per target rank second on the team at 10.1, just behind Jakobi Meyers’s 11.2. More importantly, Washington leads the Jaguars in Expected Points Added (EPA) with 21.0, a metric that estimates the value of his contributions to the team’s scoring chances. He has become a versatile threat, lining up wide, in the slot, and occasionally in the backfield, making it harder for opposing defenses to predict his role.

That versatility will be tested in London, where the Jaguars face Houston’s defense, known for its lockdown corners like All-Pro Derek Stingley. Stingley and other Texans defenders do not typically shadow the opponent’s top receiver, which suggests Washington will face a variety of coverage looks. Despite that, his consistent production has moved him to the ninth spot among wide receivers in PPR (points per reception) fantasy leagues, edging closer to must-start status for fantasy managers.

Brian Thomas Jr., once the focus of Jacksonville’s receiving corps fantasy hopes, has struggled to live up to expectations. Through five games, Thomas has nine catches for 105 yards and one touchdown. His inconsistency has been a concern, highlighted by several missed opportunities, including a notable drop in Week 2 and a failed catch attempt in the end zone against the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Thomas’s target share trails behind Washington, Meyers, and tight end Brenton Strange, and he ranks as the 83rd wide receiver in PPR formats. Fantasy analysts recommend sitting Thomas until he can prove himself a reliable option in the Jaguars’ offense.

Meanwhile, rookie Josh Cameron has shown flashes of promise when given chances on the field. Cameron has caught eight passes on 12 targets for 117 yards and two touchdowns. His ability to gain yards after the catch stands out, with nearly all of his receptions resulting in either a first down or a touchdown. Cameron also contributes as one of Jacksonville’s primary kick returners, ensuring he will see playing time each week. Fantasy players in deeper leagues might consider stashing Cameron as a potential breakout candidate.

The Jaguars’ passing game has been a mix of emerging talent and uneven results. Washington’s rise contrasts with Thomas’s struggles, while Cameron’s explosive plays hint at future opportunities. As the Jaguars prepare for their London game, fantasy managers will be watching to see if Washington continues his upward trend against a Houston secondary that has yet to face his brand of versatility.
