Morgan Rogers came through West Bromwich Albion’s academy before joining Manchester City as a teenager. He did not break into City’s first team, and a series of loans, including spells at Lincoln City, Bournemouth and Blackpool, followed before a permanent move to Middlesbrough in 2023.
Aston Villa signed him in February 2024, and he quickly became one of the Premier League’s most exciting young attacking players. Powerful and quick, he can play on the left, as a No. 10 or behind the striker, and he contributed goals and assists in Villa’s Champions League campaign.
His rise earned him senior England caps. Chelsea signed him in summer 2026 for Β£117 million.
Playing style
Rogers is a powerful, quick attacking player who can play on the left, as a No. 10 or as a second striker. He is strong on the ball and very hard to dispossess, often holding off defenders before driving past them. He scores and creates goals in equal measure, and his physicality makes him effective against tough, compact defences. His development at Aston Villa under Unai Emery turned him into one of the Premier League’s most exciting young players, and his performances in the Champions League showed he could compete at the highest level. His late development, after years of loans, makes his rise all the more notable.
International career
Rogers made his England debut in 2024 and quickly became a regular in the squad under Thomas Tuchel. His form at Aston Villa, including in the Champions League, earned him a place among England’s attacking options.
Career in numbers
Rogers’s senior club career, which began in 2018/19, has so far brought 233 appearances and 49 goals for 7 clubs. The 2025/26 season, with 14 goals from 55 matches for Aston Villa, remains his highest tally. So far in 2026/27 he has 3 goals in 7 appearances for Chelsea.
