Biography

Lucas Chevalier grew up in Calais and joined Lille’s academy as a teenager. After a loan season at Valenciennes in Ligue 2, he returned to become Lille’s first-choice goalkeeper, and he quickly built a reputation as one of Ligue 1’s most comfortable keepers with the ball at his feet.

His consistency and shot-stopping in Lille’s European campaigns brought him into the France squad. In 2025 Paris Saint-Germain signed him to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, a sign of how highly Luis Enrique rated his ability to build play from the back.

Chevalier fits PSG’s possession-based style: he takes the ball under pressure, finds midfielders between the lines and is quick off his line to sweep behind a high defence.

Playing style

Chevalier is a modern goalkeeper who is as comfortable with the ball at his feet as with his hands. He takes short passes under pressure, plays accurately into midfield and is willing to step out of his area to act as a sweeper. His shot-stopping is also strong, particularly in one-on-one situations. At Lille he was one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League, where his performances against top teams raised his profile. He is also a calm presence who communicates well with his defence.

International career

Chevalier represented France at youth level and has been called up to the senior squad. He is competing with Mike Maignan and others for the No. 1 position, and his move to PSG was seen as a step towards becoming France’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Career in numbers

Across 5 seasons of senior club football, beginning in 2021/22, Chevalier has played 183 matches for 3 clubs. His busiest campaign was 2024/25, when he played 48 matches for Lille. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
