Jonathan Tah grew up in Hamburg and came through Hamburger SV’s academy before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. He spent ten seasons at Leverkusen and became one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Bundesliga.
In 2023/24 he was a key player in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double under Xabi Alonso. He also played at Euro 2024.
Bayern Munich signed him on a free transfer in 2025.
Playing style
Tah is a tall, powerful centre-back who is dominant in the air and strong in the tackle. He is also comfortable on the ball, able to play out from the back with accurate passes. His experience and composure made him an attractive free-transfer signing for Bayern.

Tah made his Germany debut in 2016 and played at Euro 2016 and Euro 2024, where he was one of Germany’s best defenders as the hosts reached the quarter-finals.
