Michael Brennan secures second 2026 PGA Tour win at Baycurrent Classic in Japan

Michael Brennan held off a late charge from Xander Schauffele to claim the Baycurrent Classic in Japan on Sunday, securing his second PGA Tour victory of 2026. The 24-year-old American finished the tournament at 16-under-par after a final-round 68 at Yokohama Country Club, edging out Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell by a single stroke.

Brennan’s win came after a tense final day in which he carded four birdies and one bogey. Schauffele, who won the Baycurrent Classic in 2025 and took gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, was in contention until a double bogey on the last hole ended his challenge, leaving him three shots behind on 13-under.

Jacob Bridgeman came closest to matching Brennan’s score, trailing by just one stroke going into the 18th. Bridgeman, who had hoped to win back-to-back titles following his victory at the Biltmore Championship in September, missed a birdie putt on the 17th hole that might have changed the outcome. Brennan kept his composure on the final hole to secure the victory.

This marked Brennan’s third career PGA Tour win and his second of the 2026 season, following his triumph at the Wyndham Championship in August. His steady performance under pressure confirmed his rising status on the Tour.

Hideki Matsuyama, playing in front of his home crowd, finished on nine-under after a mixed round. The 2021 Masters champion birdied six of the first ten holes but bogeyed two straight on the back nine, dashing hopes of a stronger finish. “I think if I had gone to 13-, 14- or 15-under on the front nine then I would have been within sight of the leaders,” Matsuyama said after the round. “It felt like a bit of a waste.”

Jordan Spieth ended the tournament at 11-under following a final-day 67, aiming for his first PGA Tour win since April 2022. Collin Morikawa, the 2024 Baycurrent Classic champion and two-time major winner, finished on six-under.

Brennan’s second title of the year adds momentum to what has been a promising season. Meanwhile, Schauffele’s late stumble on the final hole highlighted the fine margins that often decide tournaments at the highest level.
