Los Angeles Rams aim for winning record against Buffalo Bills on Monday night

The Los Angeles Rams can secure a winning record with a victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday night in Week 5 of "Monday Night Football." The Rams improved to 2-2 after a narrow win against the Philadelphia Eagles, while the Bills aim to bounce back from their first loss of the season against New England.

The Rams have struggled with injuries this season but have tightened their defense significantly after a tough Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, they have held three consecutive opponents under 260 yards, including two games with fewer than 185 yards allowed. Their pass defense has been especially strong, and Aaron Donald returns after missing last week with an injury. Myles Garrett remains sidelined following knee surgery after Week 1.

Buffalo started the season 3-0 with dominant offensive performances, gaining over 400 yards and scoring at least 36 points in each of their first two games. However, their production has dipped over the last two weeks. They failed to reach 350 yards in either game, turning the ball over multiple times against the Los Angeles Chargers and Patriots. The Bills scored 24 and 26 points in those matchups and suffered their first defeat last week.

The Bills will be without wide receiver Josh Palmer on Monday and could also be missing their top target DJ Moore, who is questionable after missing two of the last three practices. If Moore is sidelined, quarterback Josh Allen will rely on Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and tight end Dalton Kincaid. The Rams have been effective at limiting tight ends this season, allowing just 12 catches for 85 yards, the fewest in the league, which could hamper Kincaid’s impact.

Allen’s ability to adapt has been evident over the past two years, but facing the Rams’ strong pass defense without Moore presents a challenge. Trent McDuffie, who has been playing at a high level, will likely cover Coleman, adding to the Bills’ difficulties in the passing game. Christian Benford returns to the Bills’ secondary after missing last week’s game, which may help shore up their leaky pass defense.

Running back James Cook has been a standout for Buffalo, averaging six yards per carry and gaining at least 135 yards in two of four games this season. The Rams have improved their run defense since Week 1 but have yet to face a back with Cook’s production. Containing him will be a priority to reduce pressure on Allen and the passing attack.

Offensively, the Rams have found more consistency after a slow start in their Week 1 game in Australia, posting at least 415 total yards in each of their last three contests. Turnovers remain an issue, with Matthew Stafford throwing six interceptions and completing just over 61% of his passes so far. His yards per attempt have dropped from 7.9 last season to 7.3 this year. Stafford’s efficiency slipped further last week, completing 62.7% of passes for 6.2 yards per attempt, with no touchdowns and two picks.

Buffalo’s defense has excelled at pass rushing, led by Greg Rousseau, who tops the league with six sacks and is third in total pressures with 29. Deone Walker has also contributed with 19 pressures and three batted passes. Despite this, the Bills have allowed the sixth-most passing yards in the league, with 10 touchdown passes against only two interceptions over four weeks.

The matchup pits a Rams defense that has tightened considerably against a Bills offense that has shown signs of vulnerability. The Rams will look to capitalize on their defensive improvements and Stafford’s attempts to regain last year’s form, while Buffalo tries to rebound with Allen leading a potentially depleted receiving corps. The game kicks off Monday night, with fans eager to see if the Rams can climb above .500 or if the Bills will respond after their first loss.
