Ryan Blaney claimed the pole position for the Cook Out 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway, with a lap time of 22.225 seconds.
Blaney's speed was a half-tenth faster than Chase Briscoe, securing the top spot for Saturday's 400-lap event.
The starting lineup features a mix of top contenders and those struggling to find form, with Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick set to start from lower positions.
Larson, who will start 30th, is looking to bounce back from a tough qualifying session, while Reddick will begin from 32nd after a sketchy practice and qualifying lap.
