Line judge Jeff Seeman has been suspended for two games after directing profanity at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during a late fourth-quarter play in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. The NFL confirmed the suspension following an incident in which Seeman was caught on camera yelling “F*** you!” twice at McBride after a contentious play.
The incident unfolded on a third-and-two pass attempt from Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Brissett threw a pass slightly beyond the first down marker to McBride on the left side. Giants nickelback Dru Phillips was tightly covering McBride, grabbing his jersey and then batting the ball away. McBride fell to the turf before the ball arrived, and no flag was thrown by Seeman or the back judge. McBride, who is not known for diving or flopping, then confronted Seeman, leading to the verbal exchange captured on the sideline camera.
The NFL Players Association called for an investigation and accountability after the incident. NFLPA executive director J.C. Tretter said on social media, “This kind of behavior from an official towards a player is unacceptable. Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
Seeman’s outburst came amid frustration over the lack of a holding or pass interference call, which forced the Cardinals to punt deep in their own territory. The league’s vice president of officiating, Ramon George, issued the suspension without pay. Seeman has officiated NFL games since 2002, including multiple high-profile matches and Super Bowls.
The NFL also suspended referee Adrian Hill for one game after he reportedly yelled at Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson during the Miami-Minnesota game. Both suspensions were announced publicly by the league and confirmed by ESPN reporter Adam Schefter on October 5, 2026.
Seeman’s position as line judge places him parallel to the line of scrimmage on each play, responsible for monitoring offsides, encroachment, and other infractions along the line. His presence near the 13-yard line during the McBride play gave him a clear view, but his decision not to call a penalty and the subsequent exchange with McBride have drawn scrutiny.
McBride was escorted away by Cardinals personnel after the confrontation. The NFL has not released additional details about the exact language exchanged beyond the profanity caught on camera. The league’s swift disciplinary action comes amid ongoing concerns about maintaining professionalism among officials.
No further comment has been made by Seeman or the Cardinals regarding the suspension. The Cardinals’ game against the Giants remains a focal point as officials’ conduct continues to be under the microscope this NFL season.
