Heat predicted to miss on ex-Laker LeBron James, land $342M 3-time All-Star, 14-year veteran

The Miami Heat's pursuit of a second NBA superstar this offseason is heating up, but it may not be the one they initially hoped for. According to reports, the Heat are among the finalists to land four-time NBA champion LeBron James, but if they miss out, they may turn their attention to three-time All-Star Bradley Beal.

The Heat have already made a major splash this offseason by trading for former Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and now they're looking to bring James back for one final championship run. The team has assembled an appealing core featuring Bam Adebayo and Antetokounmpo, but James has kept the entire process quiet as he continues to evaluate what he believes is the best fit.

"The Warriors are, to my knowledge, behind other teams such as a Miami, a Cleveland, a Philadelphia," ESPN's Shams Charania said. Heat president Pat Riley recently spoke to the media about the organization's efforts to pursue James. "To be transparent about it, we've had discussions over a week ago, maybe a week before that about it. But right now, I think we're like everybody else. Just waiting to see what he does," Riley told the media.

If the Heat do miss out on James, they may turn their attention to Beal, who declined his option with the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this offseason. CBS Sports' Robby Kalland believes the Heat could be a good fit for Beal, who has been long rumored to be a trade target with mutual interest. "When Bradley Beal declined his option with the Los Angeles Clippers, the immediate assumption of many was that he'd end up in Miami," Kalland wrote.

Adding Beal would give the Heat another proven perimeter scorer and outside shooting threat, but it would also come with significant risks due to his injury history. Beal has earned more than $342 million in NBA contracts during his career, but his durability has been a major concern throughout his career.

The Heat would need to weigh the risks and rewards of signing Beal, who has struggled to stay healthy in recent years. However, if they can get him at the right price, he could be a valuable addition to their roster.

The Heat's pursuit of James and potentially Beal is just the latest development in a wild NBA offseason. With several other big-name free agents still on the market, it's shaping up to be a summer to remember for basketball fans.
