Dillon Gabriel Not Among Starters in Oklahoma Quarterback Competition
Dillon Gabriel has yet to officially enter the competition to win the starting quarterback job with the Browns, despite performing well in practice.
The quarterback rotation in Cleveland is crowded, with several players vying for the top spot. Gabriel's lack of involvement in the competition has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike.
Gabriel himself seems unfazed by the situation, insisting that he doesn't take things personally. "Never disrespected," he told reporters on Wednesday. "I don’t take things personally, it’s a business. I’m focused on what I need to do to get better, and that’s all I’m focused on. I’m present with that."
Gabriel's comments suggest that he's taking a businesslike approach to his situation. He's not getting hung up on perceived slights or injustices, but rather focusing on improving his skills and contributing to the team.
The quarterback's decision to change his jersey number from 8 to 6 has also been seen as a minor setback. However, Gabriel downplays the significance of numbers, saying, "Yeah, I don’t really care about numbers. My freshman year in high school, I remember I got pulled up to varsity wearing 96. . . . No, no attachment to any numbers."
Gabriel's attitude towards numbers is a pragmatic one. He recognizes that numbers are simply a mechanical feature, and that his focus should be on improving his performance on the field.
For now, Gabriel remains an afterthought in the quarterback competition. However, his performance in practice suggests that he may yet force his way into the conversation. As the preseason continues, it will be interesting to see how Gabriel's situation develops. Will he be able to break into the starting lineup, or will he remain a reserve player? Only time will tell.
