Dana White mistakenly credited Wang Cong with victories she never achieved while promoting UFC 332’s main event in Salt Lake City. The UFC president claimed Cong had defeated Rose Namajunas, Jessica Andrade, and Alexa Grasso—wins that actually belong to her opponent, Natalia Silva.
White defended Cong’s title shot by citing a 10-1 record and several high-profile wins. “I was just saying, she beat Rose Namajunas, she beat [Jessica] Andrade, she beat [Alexa] Grasso. And, she beat Valentina Shevchenko in a kickboxing match,” White said. He also referenced Cong’s previous experience facing Shevchenko, who vacated the flyweight title due to a shoulder injury about a month ago.
The confusion became clear on social media, with fans quickly pointing out that the three UFC victories White attributed to Cong are actually part of Silva’s current 14-fight win streak. Cong’s notable UFC wins include fighters like Tracy Cortez and Ariane de Silva but not the trio White mentioned. Cong is indeed a 10-1 professional fighter, but her record does not include those marquee scalps.
At the pre-fight press conference on October 1, White avoided repeating the error when asked why Cong deserved her first shot at the vacant title. Instead, he gave a vague response: “We’re always trying to find out who the best is. That’s what we care about. In making this fight, Wang was the decision we made. Natalia obviously on a 14-fight win streak, we’ll see.”
The UFC 332 main event pits Cong, nicknamed "The Joker," against Silva. Neither fighter has the widespread star power of Valentina Shevchenko, who was forced to pull out after her injury, but both are known for striking styles that promise an entertaining clash. The fight will take place in Salt Lake City, with fans divided on the matchup.
White’s apparent unfamiliarity with Cong’s record contrasts with his usual promotional approach and raises questions about his focus. Between his efforts to promote boxing events, Power Slap, and UFC shows, White may be stretched thin. Observers suggested he would benefit from reviewing Wang Cong’s highlights before fight night, given the possibility that "Joker" could claim the UFC title.
The UFC has not issued any statement to clarify White’s remarks. Meanwhile, Silva continues her impressive run, positioning herself as a formidable contender in the division. UFC 332 remains set for its scheduled date, with both fighters preparing to make their case for the championship.
