Crawley Town dismissed head coach Colin Kazim-Richards following a 3-2 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town that left the team five points adrift at the bottom of League Two. The loss marked the Red Devils’ seventh defeat in 10 league games, with just one win all season.
Assistant coach Julian Gray was also released by the club, alongside director of football Erdem Konyar, who will be leaving Crawley Town after returning last year. The club’s statement expressed gratitude to all three for their efforts during a difficult period.
“The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Colin and Julian, who joined during a challenging period and played an important role in securing the club’s EFL status at the end of last season,” the statement read. “We would also like to thank Erdem for his hard work and commitment since returning to the club last year. All three depart with the best wishes of everyone at Crawley Town, and we wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
Kazim-Richards’ tenure began amid hopes of stabilising Crawley’s position after a challenging season, but the team’s performance failed to improve. The Red Devils have struggled for consistency, with defensive frailties and a lack of goals contributing to their position at the foot of the table.
Tuesday’s defeat to Shrewsbury was another setback, with Crawley unable to capitalise on home advantage despite scoring twice. The narrow loss left the club isolated at the bottom of League Two, five points behind the next team.
Crawley Town’s decision to part ways with their head coach, assistant, and director of football reflects the urgency to arrest the slide. The club faces a difficult task to climb out of the relegation zone with the season progressing and few points on the board.
No replacement has been announced, and the club has yet to communicate details about the search for a new head coach. Meanwhile, the players will prepare for their next fixture under interim management as Crawley look to turn their fortunes around.
