The Chicago Bears' offense left the defense in the dust on Day 2 of training camp, with quarterback Caleb Williams leading the charge and wide receiver Kalif Raymond putting on a show.
Offense dominates defense
The Bears' offense is ahead of the defense for the first time in a long time, according to the media at Thursday's practice. Zack Pearson noted it was a "good day overall for the offense" while the defense struggled to contain quarterback Caleb Williams' plethora of weapons.
Caleb Williams shines
Caleb Williams had one of his better practices, completing well over 70 percent of his passes and only having four incompletions. Two of those were tipped at the line of scrimmage, while the other was an overthrow on a free play. Williams' accuracy and decisiveness impressed Clay Harbor, who said he was "in command" and "very few balls hit the ground."
Kalif Raymond impresses
Kalif Raymond had a standout day, making several catches and showcasing his chemistry with Caleb Williams. He was on the receiving end of the biggest play of the day, a 54-yard pass from Williams in 11-on-11s over cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Raymond's quickness and great routes impressed Clay Harbor, who said he was "one of the biggest winners of practice."
Receivers shine
Receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, as well as tight end Colston Loveland, were all praised by the media for their performance. Odunze "looked explosive again" and continued to separate consistently, while Burden "keeps flashing" with clean routes and explosive after-the-catch plays. Loveland made one of the better catches of the day, laying out for a deep out route.
Position battles heat up
The battle for nickel cornerback has heated up at training camp, with Jaylon Jones and Cam Lewis working with the starters during Thursday's practice. Meanwhile, Josh Blackwell worked with the second team, and Braxton Jones continued to get reps with the first-team offense.
Injury updates
The only notable absence from Thursday's practice was running back Kyle Monangai, who was not mentioned in the source material.
The Chicago Bears' offense is on fire, and it's clear that they're ahead of the defense for the first time in a long time. With Caleb Williams leading the charge and Kalif Raymond putting on a show, the Bears are looking strong heading into the season. The position battles are heating up, and it will be interesting to see how they play out.
