Colts CB Cam Taylor-Britt handed 4-game suspension to start NFL season
The NFL has suspended Colts cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt for the first game of the 2026 regular season for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
The suspension stems from Taylor-Britt's January conviction in Ohio's Hamilton County for reckless operation and driving without a license, following two separate stops in June and September near Cincinnati's Paycor Stadium.
Taylor-Britt is eligible to play in the preseason, but will be reinstated the day after the team's season opener against Baltimore.
The veteran cornerback has acknowledged that he was working through personal issues last season, which led to his fall on the depth chart.
Taylor-Britt's experience is a significant asset for the Colts' defense in 2026. Drafted in the second round, he was a starter for the Cincinnati Bengals under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo for two seasons.
The Colts signed Taylor-Britt in free agency this offseason as a high-ceiling bet on a player who has struggled the last two seasons.
Taylor-Britt has been playing with the No. 2 defense in Colts' training camp through the first week, backing up the veteran tandem of Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward.
However, the Colts have plenty of depth at cornerback, including 2025 starter Mekhi Blackmon and promising developmental cornerback Johnathan Edwards.
Barring a rash of injuries in the preseason, the Colts should be able to handle Taylor-Britt's absence in the season opener.
Taylor-Britt himself has spoken about his personal issues, saying, "It didn't have anything to do with the coordinator. I believe it was most definitely a personal thing with me. I couldn't get my head right, and it showed in my game."
The Colts will have to navigate the absence of Taylor-Britt in their season opener without him, but the team's depth at cornerback suggests that they can handle the loss.
Taylor-Britt will be reinstated the day after the season opener, and could play a significant role for the Indianapolis defense in the remaining games of the 2026 regular season.
