Caleb Williams has shed 12 pounds, according to the Chicago Bears quarterback, who revealed his weight-shedding secret to the media on Wednesday.
Williams, who led the Bears to an 11-win season last year, made significant lifestyle changes during the offseason, including figuring out how and when to train, eating better and more consistently, not eating after 7 p.m., and focusing on rest and sleep. He believes these changes will help him move smoother on the field.
The 215-pound quarterback was among the faster players in the league last season, registering five runs of 20-plus mph, including a 21.01 mph speed against the Niners in Week 17. This was the fastest recorded speed by a quarterback during the 2025 season, according to NFL's NextGen Stats.
Williams' weight loss may be a response to his improved performance on the field. After being sacked a league-worst 68 times in his rookie season, he was only sacked 25 times in 18 games last season. The Bears' head coach, Ben Johnson, credited Williams' bulldog-like build and ability to break out of sack attempts to his excellent core and lower-body strength.
The Bears listed Williams at 215 pounds as a rookie, but his weight increased to 226 pounds prior to the 2025 season. Now, with his weight loss, Williams hopes to maintain his speed and agility while protecting his body from potential injuries.
Williams' game is about buying time to work his magic, and he was among the league leaders in time to throw last season. His ability to escape sack attempts and make plays under pressure has made him a formidable opponent for defenders.
It remains to be seen how Williams' weight loss will impact his performance this season. However, his commitment to healthy habits and his dedication to improving his game are certainly encouraging signs for the Chicago Bears and their fans.
