The Buffalo Bills secured a 37-34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams after blocking a 48-yard field goal attempt in Los Angeles. The game, a back-and-forth affair between two Super Bowl contenders, went into extra time following a last-minute Rams touchdown that tied the score at 34.
The Rams started strong, moving the ball effectively, but missed an early field goal that kept the scoring quiet in the first half. Their first points came with eight minutes left in the second quarter to give them the lead, but the Bills quickly answered to reclaim the advantage. Buffalo’s quarterback Josh Allen was limited in the first half, completing just 4 of 7 passes for 60 yards with one interception.
Both teams traded touchdowns throughout the second half. Each scored once in the third quarter and again early in the fourth. Buffalo led 27-20 with 11:28 remaining, but the Rams responded with a touchdown five minutes later to even the score. The game remained tight, with both offenses capitalizing on defensive struggles.
Buffalo took a 34-27 lead with a touchdown at 1:39 left in regulation. The Rams, led by Matthew Stafford, then executed a quick drive, tying the game with just five seconds remaining to force overtime. In the extra period, the Bills surged ahead on the back of a 57-yard pass to Khalil Shakir. However, Nate Landman forced a fumble from James Cook on the next play, with Aaron Donald recovering for the Rams, giving them a chance to win with a field goal.
Harrison Mevis lined up for a 48-yard kick but had it blocked by Buffalo, preserving the Bills’ chance. Buffalo then drove downfield, setting up Tyler Bass for a 45-yard field goal which he converted to clinch the victory.
Puka Nacua was a standout performer for the Rams, catching 17 passes on 24 targets for 138 yards and a touchdown, setting career highs in targets and receptions. Nate Landman’s defensive impact was significant with 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two forced fumbles. Tyler Higbee contributed six targets and five receptions for 83 yards.
Penalties were an issue for the Rams, who were flagged 11 times for 84 yards. The two teams combined for 35 points in the fourth quarter, with the Rams scoring three touchdowns and the Bills two.
Several plays shaped the outcome, including Kam Kinchens’ chase-down tackle on Khalil Shakir and Landman’s forced fumble on James Cook in overtime, which led to Donald’s recovery. Despite the Rams recovering the ball late in overtime, the blocked field goal proved decisive.
The Rams will remain at home for their next game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6. This will be their second divisional game of the season and the first encounter with former offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, now on the Cardinals’ staff. The matchup is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
