Rayan Aït-Nouri was born in Montreuil, on the eastern edge of Paris, and developed at Angers before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, first on loan and then permanently.
Over five seasons at Molineux he grew from a raw, attacking wing-back into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous left-sided defenders. He is at his best running with the ball, beating players in tight spaces and arriving in the box late. His 2024/25 season, in which he contributed goals and assists for a side fighting relegation, persuaded Manchester City to move for him in 2025.
Internationally, Aït-Nouri chose Algeria, the country of his family, after representing France at youth level. At City he gives the manager a natural left-footed full-back who can also play further forward.
Playing style
Aït-Nouri is an attacking full-back who is at his best with the ball at his feet. He is quick, has excellent close control and loves to dribble past opponents in tight areas, something few defenders attempt. He can play as a traditional left-back, a wing-back or even further forward, and he is comfortable cutting inside onto his right foot. Defensively he has become more reliable with experience, and his recovery pace means he is rarely exposed. His creativity makes him a valuable outlet for teams that like to attack down the left.
International career
Aït-Nouri played for France at youth level, including at the Under-20 and Under-21 levels, before switching to Algeria, the country of his family, in 2023. He has since become a regular for Algeria and played at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Career in numbers
Across 9 seasons of senior club football, beginning in 2018/19, Aït-Nouri has played 213 matches and scored 12 goals for 3 clubs. His most productive season in front of goal was 2024/25, when he scored 5 times in 44 games for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City. So far in 2026/27 he has made 2 appearances for Manchester City. The full season-by-season record is in the Stats section of this profile.
