The Seattle Seahawks saw several starters return to full practice on Thursday ahead of their Week 3 game against the Washington Commanders, but a defensive injury raised fresh concerns.
Quarterback Sam Darnold, who missed last week’s 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals with a glute injury, took part fully in practice. Alongside Darnold, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, linebacker Ernest Jones IV, running back George Holani, and fullback Brady Russell also moved past their practice limitations, giving coach Mike Macdonald’s offense a much healthier look after a challenging start to the season.
Despite the offensive boost, the Seahawks’ defense encountered a setback. Safety Julian Love sat out practice with a calf injury, putting pressure on a secondary already stretched thin. Backup safety Ty Okada remains sidelined with a hamstring problem, leaving the team likely to start safety Rodney Thomas II for the third consecutive game. Safety Nick Emmanwori practiced fully but is managing an ankle injury.
Brady Henderson of ESPN tweeted the latest injury update, noting that Jadarian Price remained limited for a second day due to a chest injury, following his early exit in Week 2 despite tough yardage gains. Defensive tackle Brandon Pili also practiced in a limited capacity while dealing with concussion and neck issues.
Darnold’s return under center should help restore offensive rhythm against the Commanders. But if Love cannot play on Sunday, the Seahawks will rely on their younger safeties to maintain stability in the secondary. The team’s final injury decisions will come as the weekend approaches.
