Panthers HC Dave Canales provides update on Haynes King's injury status
Panthers quarterback Haynes King will miss the team's next preseason game after suffering a hamstring injury in the Hall of Fame Game.
King, who took the bulk of snaps under center in the Panthers' 33-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals, pushed the team to a thrilling victory before being hurt on the game's final play.
The rookie completed 21 of his 34 throws for 180 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for the game-winning score as time expired.
Head coach Dave Canales provided an update on King's status following Sunday morning's practice, telling reporters that he does not expect to see him play in the next exhibition contest.
"We'll just keep evaluating him on a weekly basis," Canales said. "I do not see him coming back for this game, for sure. We'll reevaluate him on the following week to see when we can get him back out there."
The Panthers will meet up with the Buffalo Bills for their Week 1 preseason outing, which takes place at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. The matchup will mark the first game at the new Highmark Stadium.
Carolina's quarterback depth has taken a hit with King's injury, leaving the team with just two healthy quarterbacks, starter Bryce Young and backup Kenny Pickett.
To help make up for King's absence, the Panthers signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick Kyle Trask, who worked out for the team back on July 29.
The Panthers will have to adjust their plans without King in the short term, but it's unclear how long he will be out.
