Liverpool enter talks to sign Rio Ngumoha's dream partner.
Journalist Fabrice Hawkins claims that the Reds are to enter talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Ibrahim Mbaye, a Senegal star who will leave Paris this summer.
Liverpool hope that Mbaye's destination is Anfield, with good reason. Mbaye is essentially another Ngumoha but for the other flank.
There were two out-and-out wingers born in 2008 who got at least 500 minutes across Europe's top five leagues last season. One was Ngumoha, the other Mbaye.
The idea of putting two of them together is an exciting one, especially as it's a natural fit. Both are wingers who want to dribble, they complete their passes, and make things happen in the final third.
They're the same age, can easily play in the same team, and look like wonderful compliments to one another. Developing them together feels like a fantastic idea – one where they don't just become top players but learn how to play as one.
That's one of the biggest issues with elite talents, after all: getting the best out of them in the same team. This feels like a sure-fire way of eliminating that problem.
The Reds pushed hard to sign Ngumoha out of Chelsea's academy and now he's blossoming into something special. Liverpool think so, England think so, and now the world is seeing it.
It's incredibly unusual for two players born in the same year to achieve this level of success. Only 11 players born in 2008 played 500 minutes across all positions, and by their model, the top four attacking outputs were Lennart Karl, Mbaye, Wael Mohya at Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Ngumoha.
Developing Ngumoha and Mbaye together feels like a no-brainer. It's an incredibly exciting idea, then. Liverpool just need to make it happen.
The Senegal star will leave Paris this summer and his destination is all that needs figuring out. If Liverpool can sign Mbaye, it would be a major coup for the club and a huge boost for Ngumoha's development.
