Stefon Diggs remains a free agent following his departure from the New England Patriots at the end of last season. The 32-year-old wide receiver is considering his third new team in as many years, with the opening day of the 2026 season around the corner.
The Washington Commanders are one of the teams reportedly interested in signing Diggs. According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Commanders are in "see-what-we-have mode at receiver" but have Stefon Diggs "on the radar" as they head into their first week of training camp.
Diggs' potential move to Washington is intriguing for several reasons. Born and raised in Maryland, he would certainly strengthen the Commanders' offense and give Jayden Daniels a better chance of a bounceback year.
However, the Commanders' 5-12 record last season may give Diggs pause. After helping the Patriots reach the Super Bowl in his first year back from an ACL injury, he may prefer to play for a Super Bowl contender next season instead.
The Commanders' top receiver is Terry McLaurin, but they have limited options beyond the two-time Pro Bowler. Diggs' addition would give them a clear upgrade at the position.
If Diggs were to join the Commanders, it would be his third team in as many years. He had 85 receptions, 1,013 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns in 17 regular season games for the Patriots last season.
The Commanders are "monitoring the situation" and will likely be watching Diggs closely as the season approaches. For now, it remains to be seen whether Diggs will choose to play for Washington or another team.
