Erik ten Hag's Man United Suffer 2-1 Defeat to Atletico Madrid in Stockholm
Despite going behind early on a very fluky goal, Manchester United logged a good 45 minutes of action but ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid in their preseason friendly in Stockholm.
The Spanish giants took the lead in the fifth minute when Atletico Madrid's Arnau Ortiz lifted a cross in from the top-corner of the penalty area that was meant for the far post, but nobody on either team got a touch, and it slid into the net.
Manchester United held 57% possession and ripped off eight shots to Atletico's three, testing Jan Oblak on a few occasions, but were unable to find the equalizer. The Red Devils created a few good chances to score, just unable to finish them off.
Erik ten Hag's side will likely make a bunch of changes at the break, given the amount of possession they had in the first half. The defeat to Atletico Madrid is a setback for Manchester United, who had been looking to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Wrexham in their previous preseason game.
Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, will look to build on their 4-1 win over Getafe in a behind-closed-doors friendly at their training ground earlier in the week. The Spanish giants were 1-0 winners when they met Manchester United in a friendly four years ago, and will be looking to repeat that result in Stockholm.
Manchester United will face Paris Saint-Germain in their next preseason game, on August 8 in Gothenburg. The match is set to kick off at 11 a.m. ET, and will be available to watch via Man United's in-house channel, MUTV, for those with a subscription.
The defeat to Atletico Madrid is a tough result for Manchester United, but they will look to bounce back in their next game.
