Nebraska schedules showdown against Butler at neutral site
The Nebraska men's basketball team has announced a highly anticipated matchup against Butler in Chicago on Sunday, Nov. 22.
The game will take place at the Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago. Tipoff time and broadcast information will be announced later this summer.
This marks the fourth clash between the Huskers and Bulldogs, with Nebraska leading the series 3-1. The most recent matchup was an 80-76 Nebraska win in the first round of the 2019 NIT.
The Huskers will face Butler after battling Providence and Boise State at neutral sites. Nebraska takes on Providence and Boise State before facing the Bulldogs.
Butler is in its first year under head coach Ronald Nored, who joins his alma mater after a coaching journey in the NBA. The Bulldogs finished 16-16 last season, their second-best season post the 2020-2021 COVID season.
Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg is excited about the opportunity to play in front of fans and alumni in Chicago. "We were looking to add another high-profile game as we finalized our non-conference schedule and this matchup with Butler had many of the things we were looking for," Hoiberg said.
The game also marks the Huskers' first regular-season battle with the Bulldogs since late December 1986. Butler is bringing back five players from last season's roster and seven newcomers.
Hoiberg expressed his respect for Coach Nored, who worked his way up the NBA coaching ranks before returning to lead his alma mater. "He was with one of my basketball mentors in Rick Carlisle with the Pacers," Hoiberg said.
The neutral-site games will give Nebraska valuable experience before entering their December Big Ten Conference schedule. The Huskers will face a tough Butler team in their first regular-season matchup.
The game is one of four neutral-site games for Nebraska this upcoming season. The Huskers also face Providence, Boise State, and Missouri at neutral sites.
As the season approaches, fans will be eagerly awaiting the tipoff time and broadcast information for the highly anticipated matchup between Nebraska and Butler.
